America hasn't used the Imperial System since 1832. The US Customary Units (USCU) We took the units of measurement people were already using and redefined them using the metric system. 10 British inches was approximately 254 mm 10 American inches is exactly 254 mm The American definition of the inch is 25.4 mm The Imperial gallon is 10 pounds of water The American gallon is 231 cubic inches (Because our inch is defined by the metric system) The only way the American system could be imprecise is if the metric system is imprecise because the USCU system is defined by the metric system. There are no "approximate" conversions between the USCU and Metric. We lost a Mars probe because a European Engineer working for NASA couldn't get it through his skull that America doesn't use the the Imperial System , he assumed that the Imperial to Metric conversion table was different because it must be more accurate than the one America uses. So he converted the units incorrectly.

i'm also autistic, and personally i and the people i know use /hj almost exclusively as type one hj, but we also only use it with people we already know pretty well. i also get confused pretty easy when i like, don't know at least the general broad strokes of someone's beliefs use it because it can be used in either way and i don't know them well enough to know what they mean. it makes a lot more sense when i *do* know the beliefs of the person using it, to the point even my significantly communicationally challenged self probably already had a close enough guess as to what they mean, and it's just an extra clarification. e.g., "i know the way they talk and know this was most likely conveying a genuine viewpoint under a layer of irony, but now i dont have to second guess myself thinking they maybe meant entirely joking or entirely literally this time."

To me “I’m going to buy an absurd amount of orange juice /hj” succinctly indicates a sort of sincere embarrassment that yes, they really are going to buy way too much orange juice but feel kind of silly and self-conscious with how much they want. /serious conveys confidence in the decision without self-conscious sheepishness. /joking means they aren’t going to do it. It still doesn’t help for ALL instances of /hj, but in this case it’s like, “I’m sincere but in professing this, I feel like a weirdo goofball for this belief”

Hey there! Great entire video, just one conflict i have. As someone who studied game design specifically, I'd like to provide the one piece of feedback that i think i could help with. One of the things that is required for something to be a game is a way to determine successes and failures, or at least progress that exists as part of the system itself. A game has to have some way to track victory points, setbacks, or failures. In other words, a way to measure successes. If it doesn't do any of those, its something else, could be a tool, a toy, or something else, but its not a game. I love stuff like Townscaper, but it isn't a game, its a toy, and is listed as such on the steam page. This is because it doesn't have defined progress, success, or fail states, that up to the player. I use Aseprite all the time, but its not a game, its a tool, its a software used to aid you in creating or solving something else. Playing with green army men moving around is a toy until you attempt to say "if i can get my men there without you stopping me" and have some way to define what/how to stop them, at which point it becomes a game, or, as an If you play with a chess set with chess rules, attempting to achieve some better outcome, even if they are different chess rules than normal, its a game. If you play with a chess set just moving the pieces how you feel like until you both decide to stop, its a toy. If you play with a chess set as a way of tracking information, its a tool. Since Mario Sweater doesn't have any way to have progress and setback as part of the defined systems, and its up to the player to determine successes and failures, it is either a tool or a toy. I believe Mario Sweater most cleanly maps to being a Tool, not a Game, as the software itself doesn't have any state for failure or setback from any of the videos i watched. It instead guides you, unconditionally, through the process of making a sweater and it is up to you, as a user, to determine if that was a success or failure, not part of the systems of the software. Mario calculator is, similarly, a tool not a game, it doesn't have a way of tracking a quality of progress or success, its up to the user to determine if they successfully used Mario calculator. Even with the fact you can move Mario around some on the bottom of the screen, there is no 'success' in doing so, just a way to move between base10 mathand unit conversion. Lastly, there is no reason, at least by professionally agreed upon standards that super Mario run not be a game, it has a way of tracking successes with number of coins collected and the ability to have failures, absolutely a game. Again, absolutely fantastic video and look forward to seeing more!

As an Earthbound fan I couldn't disagree more with your take on the symbol, the earth is featured in the logo of the franchise, that earth is the letter O in the Mother logos since the first game, Mr Saturn wouldn't represent the first game because it didn't exist until Earthbound and even so, Mr. Saturn is an alien, that isn't a representation of forming a bond with mother earth. The earth is a prominent feature in the title screen of the first Mother game, even when they renamed it Earethbound Beginnings they kept the earth in the title screen, so yes, the Earth is the perfect symbol to represent the franchise.

Farenheit, the Imperial System, Fractions. All stuff that is based on real world conditions and measurements that normal every day people can make and understand. Metric, Celcius & decimals. This is all stuff scientists can sometimes use to hone in on smaller units but is incredibly lacking in real world application, that's why the metric fan boys always have to defend the system, it's a bunch of academics trying to convince normal people to use a system that is inferior for their (the normal person's) purposes. Fractions took us to the moon, metric didn't.

It is now 3 years later and I'm watching this again. I wonder if theres some reasonable definition of a shape that makes the petrial pairs count as the same thing, because they're like two different methods of defining the same real object? You could probably extend that assumption of edges not overlapping for polygons to a 3d version where two polyhedra are the same if all their line segments and vertecies can overlap so that they are indistinguishable. So yeah if you allow petrials despite them looking identical to the originals then you gotta allow overlapping lines. You could also use that argument to rule out (or to allow) self intersection, as two intersecting lines look indistinguishable from four line segments sharing a vertex, and intersecting planes look identical to a complicated shape outlining their intersection point cut out of another shape. Generally this whole "things looking identical to other things" assumption you started with for polygons could be either removed or extended to 3D

I find it funny that the only thing I can think of in the US that widely used the metric system is bottled pop. You go to the store and pick up some 2 liters of Dr Pepper. In my sleepy mindset I have right now, that’s the only thing I can think of and it’s funny
